写真集 『SEZON MUSEUM OF MODERN ART PHOTOGRAPHS BY MIKIYA TAKIMOTO』

To mark the renovation of the Sezon Museum of Modern Art, which celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2026, Mikiya Takimoto photographed the museum and its surroundings. This book presents Takimoto’s distinctive perspective, capturing the museum’s landscapes in relation to the formation of the land and the passage of time across the ages.
Designed by Yuri Uenishi, the book features a substantial hardcover binding that evokes a sense of history and the accumulation of time. Foil stamping reminiscent of cracks and moss, along with a color palette transitioning from deep to vibrant greens, reflects the lush vegetation of the museum’s garden and its atmosphere down to the finest details. Generous white space and the placement of a single photograph on each spread allow the individual beauty of every image to stand out.
During this shoot, I quietly waited for the shifting light, sensing the passage of time embedded in this place and absorbing its unique atmosphere. In the garden, amid soft light and shadow, I felt the pulse of the earth extending from Mount Asama. Inside the museum, I engaged with a newly transformed space that carries forward 45 years of creative history.
For the museum interiors, I made full use of the movements of a 4×5 large-format camera to minimize perspective and create images with the flatness of paintings. My aim was to bring nature, architecture, and art into harmony within each photograph.
I hope that, as you turn the pages and take your time with each image, this book will invite you to discover the beauty of light that often goes unnoticed and to sense the passage of time that flows through these spaces.
